What is the best artificial bait for snook?
The best artificial bait for snook is a paddle tail ranging from 3 inches all the way up to 6 inches. This bait can be rigged with a jig head or weed less and fished in any scenario to catch snook of all sizes.
I have used just about every artificial bait that there is to catch snook over the last 40 years. These include jerk baits, suspending baits, top water baits, spoons, grubs, shrimp and many more.
The best all around artificial bait to maximize your snook catching efficiency in every fishing scenario is the paddle tail. It just works too well for finding snook and catching snook.
The best color paddle tail to use is definitely white and if the water is dirty, then you should use root beer or purple. Dark lures create enough contrast against the dirty water for the snook to lock in on them easily.
The best artificial bait to use at night for snook is the flair hawk style of snook jig. This jig is the best at catching snook near lights of some kind at night.
Those lights may be dock lights, bridge lights, sea wall lights, inlet lights or just street lights that shine into the water.

Where is the best place to catch snook?
Snook are very structure oriented. This means that they like to hang around underwater structures to hide from predators and to ambush potential prey items.
Most fishermen relate snook structure to man made structures like dock pilings and bridge pilings for good reason. Those pilings that reach down deep into the water column are excellent places to catch huge snook.
The largest snook are females and they like to hug the bottom right next to those deep water pilings. Your job as a snook angler is to get your lures down to those fish.
The best lures for the job are a paddle tail with a jig head heavy enough to get down there or if you are fishing at night a flair hawk jig.
I wrote another article on this website that covers in great detail the best baits and lures for snook fishing. You can read that article by clicking right here.
Both artificial baits should be bounced or swum within 12 inches of the bottom with the current. Snook are almost always facing right into the current waiting for a meal to swim too close so that they can pounce on it.
The best retrieval speed is about the same speed as the current is moving. Most fishermen fish their lures too fast and the snook won't bite.

Can you catch snook at night?
Yes. Night time is the right time to catch huge snook. Those older and wiser large snook will let down their guard at night and eat artificial baits more readily than in the day time hours.
Your best chance to catch your personal best snook is at night. The best lure to catch night time snook is the flair hawk snook jig. This lure is simply the best lure to catch those snook hugging lit up structure at night.
The technique is very simple. Just cast up current and work the lure within a foot of the bottom in a swimming motion or bounce it off of the bottom keeping it within 12 inches of the bottom.
Just keep casting and jigging until you feel that thump that is so particular to a snook strike. You will know when a snook hits your jig versus some other species of fish.
