Frequently Asked Questions:
When are your charters available?
Our charters are available 7 days a week, 12 months a year.
How long do your inshore flats fishing charters last?
Our charters last for 4 or 6 hours. Four hour charters are $400 and the six hour charters are $550. Charter rates include everything needed for a day of fishing (gear, ice, bottled water, bait, tackle, etc.)
Where do the charters launch from?
We have two main launch locations.
For our saltwater flats charters we launch from Round Island Riverside Park, Vero Beach. This area is great for sight fishing and blind casting the mangroves, sand bars and grass flats for snook, speckled trout, redfish, tarpon, pompano.....
We also launch from White City Park, White City. This launch into the North Fork of the St. Lucie River is best for experienced lure anglers with pinpoint casting accuracy. Our North Fork fishing charters are all about flipping and skipping lures to docks, logs and under trees for snook and largemouth bass.
The river is protected from the wind so on those days when the flats are blown out with 20+ mph wind, fishing the river is a good plan B.
You can expect to make a few hundred casts during both of our fishing charters.
How many people can be on the fishing charter?
The charter is for 2 people max. plus your Captain. The boat is a 17 foot skiff made for very shallow water fishing scenarios. We can quietly stalk fish in less than 12 inches of water.
If you have more than 2 people who want to fish, then you can book a surf fishing charter for up to 4 people. Learn more here surf fishing charters.
What is a typical charter like?
Our salt water charters are fly fishing and light tackle, lure tossing adventures in which your captain will teach you how to catch tarpon, snook, speckled trout, redfish and flounder using artificial baits.
A typical charter may start with sight fishing for tarpon in a small bay or push poling quietly in shallow water to stalk snook, redfish, speckled trout and jacks.
Then we may drift the grass flats for speckled trout or pitch lures to the roots of the mangroves for snook and redfish.
Fish move around a lot based on changing water temperatures, barometric pressure, tides, wind, seasons, food and predators..... So we'll keep moving until we start catching.
You can expect to make plenty of casts because we will cover a lot of water to maximize your fish catching potential.
Is the flats boat comfortable to fish from?
YES! This 17 foot custom flats boat was built and designed specifically to maximize your fishing efficiency. The front casting deck is 6 feet long and the entire cockpit is wide open for a better fishing and casting experience.
There is no center console to get in the way of your fishing adventures. Less is more when it comes to shallow water, inshore fishing and my custom built flats boat was designed perfectly for shallow water fishing at its best.
What types of fish can we catch?
My specialty species are tarpon, snook and speckled trout. However, you can catch redfish, sharks, grouper, black drum, sheepshead, mangrove snappers, jack crevalle, bluefish, permit, pompanos, bonefish, Spanish mackerel and many more species depending upon the time of the year.
Check out our fishing reports to learn more about the best months to target specific fish.
Can we keep the fish that we catch?
NO. I am a Captain who is very concerned about the sustainability of our inshore marine ecosystems and the fish populations along the Treasure Coast. Conservation is my number one priority.
If you just want to fill your cooler with fish, then I am not the guide for you. I will gladly refer you to another Captain who caters to "meat hunters".
Are fly fishermen welcome?
YES, we cater to intermediate and advanced level fly fishermen. We have 2 Orvis 8 wts. and plenty of flies BUT you should bring your own fly fishing tackle and flies.
The flats around the Treasure Coast are excellent for sight fishing enthusiasts and perfect for fly fishermen. On days when the sight fishing isn't an option there are plenty of fish to catch in water from 2 to 8 feet deep. (Bring a sinking tip just in case.)
The perfect set up for the winter months is a 6 wt. set up. BUT during the hot months you will want to bring something heavier like an 8 wt. for the small tarpon and large snook that will be abundant during that time of year.

You can bring a smile, polarized sun glasses, a hat and clothing to protect you from the sun, and a rain jacket (just in case). It is also a good idea to bring some snacks or sandwiches if you are planning on eating during the fishing trip.
DO NOT BRING spray on sun screen. (It gets all over the boat, bait and tackle.)
DO NOT WEAR dark soled shoes. (They scuff up the fishing decks.)

How do we lock in a fishing charter with your company?
1) You can email contact@fishyourassoff.com or call 561-339-2317 and leave a message about the date you want to fish. I will call you back and confirm the availability of your charter date and take a $100 deposit to lock in your spot.
