Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need a fishing license to surf fish? Yes, you do need a fishing license unless you are 65 or older or under 16 years of age. Everyone else needs to get a saltwater fishing license.
You can get one right here SALTWATER LICENSE
When are your surf fishing charters offered? The charter is designed to take advantage of the higher parts of the tide during weekdays.
ex. High tide is at noon so we would either fish 9am to noon (incoming tide) or noon to 3pm (outgoing tide).
The weekends are sometimes too busy to fish unless the high tide coincides with early morning. Then we can surf fish the weekends before the beach gets too crowded.
When is the best time of year to fish around the Treasure Coast? That really depends upon what species of fish you want to target. There are always fish around to catch.
ex. (Hot month charters) May through October are the best months to catch snook, tarpon, permit and large jacks off of the beach.
ex. (Cold month charters) November through April are the best months to catch pompano, croakers, Spanish mackerel, bluefish and whiting off of the beach.
How much are your surf fishing charters? The cost is $200. (4 people max.) The charter lasts for 3 hours.
A $100 deposit is required to lock in your spot and the balance is due in CASH before the charter begins.
You are also required to sign a risk release waiver. You can read that document here.
Get in touch by emailing to contact@fishyourassoff.com or call 561-339-2317 and leave a message and we will call you back to lock in your charter date and time.
What should we bring surf fishing? Bring a hat, water, polarized glasses, a bottle of water, a backpack for your stuff and some shoes (if you want).
We supply rods, reels, baits, lures and pictures of your catch.
What should clients expect on a surf fishing charter? It really depends upon whether it is a hot month charter or a cold month charter.
Hot Month Charters (May thru October)- You can expect a fun day fishing as we walk the beach casting lures for snook, tarpon, jacks, permit and many more game fish species. You can expect to walk up to a mile in search of fish during this charter.
Cold Month Charters (November thru April)- You can expect to use 11 ft. beach rods to cast out shrimp and fish bites that we set in rod holders and wait for pompano, croakers and whiting to bite. This charter is more of a sit down and wait for the rods to bend type of charter.
Where are your charters offered? Our surf fishing charters are offered from as far south as Stuart and as far north as Vero Beach.
Can we keep the fish that we catch? During the Cold Month Charters you can keep a few fish if you bring a bucket to take them home with you. Pompano, whiting and croakers are very abundant so taking a few won't hurt the populations very much.
BUT During the Hot Month Charters we are catch and release only. Snook and permit are not abundant so we let them all go. We are trying to conserve our marine ecosystem one fish at a time.
The Hot Month Charter caters to sportsmen interested in the challenge of catching amazing, drag pulling game fish in the surf with artificial lures.
Are fly fishermen welcome? Yes, intermediate and advanced level fly fishermen are welcome. But you will have to bring your own gear and we will provide the proper flies for catching fish in the surf.
What if the surf is too rough to fish? Surf fishing charters can be rescheduled because of too much sargassum weed, rough surf or just bad conditions in general. You can choose to reschedule or get your deposit back.
OR You can upgrade to one of our flats boat fishing charters. Learn more here.
How do we cancel a surf fishing charter? Just call and cancel at least 72 hours before your charter date for a full refund of your deposit. If you cancel less than 72 hours before your charter is scheduled, then your deposit will be forfeited.
Do you have gift certificates for your surf fishing charters? Yes, you can prepay for a charter as a gift and it is good for 12 months from the purchase date.
